My World Issues Blog
This summer I travelled to Du Bois, Pennlsylvania with my family as we have a timeshare there. It takes about four hours to get there and along these hours we are putting alot of exhaust fumes into our environment. Exhaust fumes contain carbon dioxide and methane which help create the greenhouse effect. This contributes to global warming which could make some parts of the earth non liveable, and cause extreme weather conditions in the next century. The first week we went was in the middle of July and it was very hot and humid. Every day was around 40 degrees celcius. Many people believe that hot weather such as this is related. For example, the records from the National Climate Data Center show that over the last 55 years, the number of unusually warm days and warm nights have steadily increased. The second week we went, was in the middle of August, but everyday the weather was cold, rainy, and very intense thunderstorms. I do believe that these thunderstorms are related to global warming. The reason i believe this is because since the weather had been so hot, the rainy weather moved in quite fast causing the cold front to get stuck in the atmosphere and produce big thunderstorms. It is said that in a warmer climate, stronger and more severe storms can be expected, but with fewer storms overall. The average warmer temperatures on Earth will change the water cycle leading to altered patterns of precipitation, which causes more water than usual in some places, less in others. Whenever severe thunderstorms occur, there is always a chance of tornados, hurricanes etc. Global warming has the potential to increase the strength in tornados and hurricanes.
